Suffering

Suffering is a treasure, for it contains mercies.
O brother, the place of darkness and cold, tolerating sadness, weakness and suffering is the fountain of Life and the cup of ecstasy, because the root of those highs (successes) is in the downs (problems).
The spring seasons are hidden in the autumns,
That spring is within autumn, so don’t escape from autumn.

Need

 Wherever a pain is, the medicine goes there;

Wherever that a poverty is, the wealth goes there.

Wherever a difficult question is, the answer goes there;

Wherever that a farm is, the, water goes there.

Do not seek the water; get thirst, so that the your water gushes from

above and below.

high tolerance frustration

The path of change is mixed with suffering and frustration.

 Everyone wants to give up his/her addiction.

People try for realizing their dreams.

Individuals want to change their bad emotions such as depression, anger, and anxiety.

All of people are demanding to change and growth, require high tolerance frustration.

Tattoo

A man went to the artist to have such a device tattooed on his back, and desired that it might be the figure of a lion. But when he felt the pricks of the needles he roared with pain, and said to the artist, "What part of the lion are you now painting?"
The artist replied, "I am doing the tail."
The patient cried, "Never mind the tail; go on with another part."
The artist accordingly began in another part, but the patient again cried out and told him to try somewhere else. Wherever the artist applied his needles, the patient raised similar objections, till at last the artist dashed all his needles and pigments on the ground, and refused to proceed any further.

Fear and Love

The ascetic and loving bondwoman is a key and multi level story in masnavi that Rumi compare the fear and love.

An ascetic had a watchful wife and beautiful bondwoman.

 Bondwoman loved ascetic, but ascetic’s wife watched out they did not have lovely opportunity.

One day wife and bondwoman went to (public) bath, woman had forgotten the tub.

She told bondwoman, go home and bring the tube quickly.

Bondwoman became happy, because she knows that ascetic is home now.

Suddenly, woman remembered that ascetic is home now, so she run immediately to the house for preventing from getting two lovers together.

Rumi says, since, bondwoman runs with love and ascetic’s wife with fear, so, she’ll never reach to bondwoman!

That run from love, this from fear

There is great difference between love and fear.

Thirsty person

Thirsty person


On the bank of the stream there was a high wall,
 painful thirsty person was on the top of the wall.
.
His obstacle for reaching the water was the wall;
He was in distress for the water, like a fish.


Suddenly he threw a brick into the water: 
the sound of the water came to his ear like spoken words.


The water was making a sound, that is to say, (it was crying), “Hey,
what is the advantage to you of this throwing a brick at me?”


The thirsty person said, “O water, I have two advantages:
 I will never give up from this work.


The first advantage is (my) hearing the sound of the water,
 which to thirsty people is music to their ears.


The other advantage is that, (with) every brick I tear off this (wall),
 I come (nearer) to running water.


Anyone is more thirsty on the top of  the wall,
He will tear off the bricks more quickly. 


Anyone is more love with the sound of the water,
He will tear off the bigger brick from the barrier.

Challenging goals

Challenging goals are goals that go beyond our current abilities and to achieve these goals require more creativity and effort than activities that we do at present. Challenging goal has two great advantages for individual and organizations. The first advantage is creating your motivation and the second advantage is actualizing your potential.

Motivation

Different studies show that two types of goals don’t create enthusiasm and motivation in us. First category is simple goals that access to them is easy. These goals create reluctance and crazy.
The second category is difficult goals that access to them is very difficult and , this group goals is cause of hopelessness.  Both categories have a common feature that is not associated with hopeful state. Because hope and are inseparable. The easy goal hasn’t fear and the difficult goal hasn’t hope. Rumi believe both fear and hope, although they are opposites in appearance, but both have a duty that is creating motivation. He said “fear and hope like board in sea will be used by sailor for reaching lover.”

Actualizing potential

The most important human need is Actualizing potential, choosing targets that go beyond our current ability and efforts to reach them are cause of our personal development.

A society, according to the British historian, Arnold Toynbee, develops into a civilization when it is confronted with a challenge which it successfully meets in such a way as to lead it on to further challenges. the truth is that not only civilizations but also Personal Success have been created by challenges.
